One of the most commonly used phrases "Let me be straightforward, ....." means there is something really unpleasant coming your way :) "Being Straightforward" is one of the most abused concepts in modern days !
Being straightforward is actually a behavior which makes others understand what we are without much difficulty. Its being honest, upright, good natured with no scheming or hypocrisy. Its all about portraying our own image but not commenting or judging others as popularly perceived.
But today it has become synonymous to being blunt, impolite and coarse to degrade others to feel superior or most of the times to conceal their own inferiority complex or to feel good (sadistic pleasure). Thats actually being "straightbackward" because if you are pointing out others' inabilities, negative situations or inherent inefficiencies by passing blunt remarks, where not necessary, its far from being frank as this kind of "frankness" might most probably break somebody's heart or possibly strain relations too while you bask in your own false glory.
Honest negative comments would only help a case where some kind of constructive criticism is needed to improve the situation or performance of the person at the receiving end. Though you are not completely impressed with something / somebody, a word of positivity will always bring out a smile and a ray of hope in others. Its hypocrisy or backbiting only when you laugh at the situation before someone else.
So, if you ever are brutally honest in passing a negative comment at somebody which would not improve him/her, understand that you are being straightbackward and it shows your urge to humiliate others and take pride or solace in it. AND THIS IS A SERIOUS MENTAL DISORDER.
